The Challenge
The French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China needed a website to share easily their information. Indeed, it is composed of several local branches over China and each of them has its own editorial department. For each of the editor of the different departments, he or she only needs to have the rights to see or edit content belonging to his or her department. Moreover, only the admin can approve the content modification. The website has also to feature a restricted area, for members, which includes a directory about French companies operating in China. A distinct mini website for the magazine “Connexions” has also to be integrated into the main website. .
The Solution
The eZ Publish platform was very suitable for the project because of its strong support on the editorial workflow and the control of user’s editorial rights. For example, it can be configured for only some users group, accessing the same Back Office, to view only the concerned content. Additionally, the members who can access the restricted area in the Front Office can’t log into the Back Office. This requirement can be easily met by configuring certain login rights of user modules from users group. The sections mechanism eases the creation of a restricted area for members. We just need to assign a group of content objects to a section, named “restricted”, and then configure the corresponding users group’s rights to have the reading access.
In order to publish the mass of categorized data, the data import feature in eZ Publish was initially used. In eZ Publish, there is default command line script to import data in CSV file format. We carefully designed the data source structure in the CSV file and worked closely with the client in making a clear data migration/import strategy. Moreover, eZ Publish provides a very easy approach to publish a PDF version of content.
A separated eZ system was set up to power the mini website. The mini website is a magazine site which requires scheduling the publication of different magazine issues at different time. eZ Publish provides “publish till time” workflow and “hide and show content“ ability to fulfill this requirement easily. The mini website can be easily done as a sub website in the main system or built as a separated system. The choice is very flexible. We worked with the client based on his requirements and decided to use a separated eZ system for a clearer content management in BO. The mini site was easily integrated into the main site with little effort.
The Results
The quantity of content and the complexity of eZ Publish make that we need to use a very good server to power the site. The final site can be consulted at:
www.ccifc.org. According to the site seedspiller.com, around 24,000,000 visitors consult this website every month. This is by far the biggest site done by Bysoft in term of traffic. Through the strong support of Cache System in eZ Publish, the site has been released online two years ago. The site provides useful information for various kinds of users through a simple and convenient way.
